OFF-Page SEO:

Search engine optimization (SEO) can be divided into two implementation strategies, on page and off page. However, just because they are divided does not mean they are not directly related to one another. Your results will not be as effective if you do not inmplement both divisions of SEO.

Off page SEO pertains to tasks that enhance organic results through factors not directly involving your website content and functionality.

For instance, URL directory submissions to top rated, search engine friendly sites will increase your organic results because those site get indexed often, which means your site will be indexed more often. The more your site gets indexed and is determined to have relevent and quality content for specific keywords, then your URL progressively climbs the organic results list for your select keywords.

NOTE: Organic results are the the ones listed below the paid search ads or "sponsored" search ads that appear in the blue or yellow boxes at the top of the page along the right side of the page.

One of the key objectives for off page SEO is achieving quality back-links to your site from high rated, search engine friendly sites; note the emphasis on the term quality. Many professionals that that any link back to your site will do, but that is not true. In fact, too many of the wrong link-backs can actually damage your efforts.

Social Media and Video Marketing are among the hottest Internet marketing strategies right now; mainly because of the near immediate organic results. Social Media Marketing actually falls under the off page SEO banner because it's effective in creating quality links backs from high rated sites (including forums and blogs, which search engines LOVE!). This ensures that your URLs will most definately be listed among the top results for your select keywords...in most cases, in multiple positions.
PPC Marketing:

Pay-Per-Click (PPC) marketing through the Google AdWords Platform is one of the greatest ways to drive qualified traffic to your site and increase your Internet business.

Some think that Social Media and Video Marketing have replaced this initiative, but at Giraffe, we don't think soPPC and SMM work great as partners and lead to much bigger success as such. In fact, SMM will ensure your PPC budget remains in tact. The better rankings you achieve through organic results (from SMM), the less you will pay for click-throughs on your AdWords campaign, in addition to a few other benefits too.

Even if you don't choose to use Giraffe Communications, we recommend you use a highly skilled PPC master to create, implement and manage your initial PPC campaigns. That's how strongly we believe in "doing it right" from the start. Trust me - this recommendation will SAVE you TIME and SAVE you MONEY in the long run.

We hope you do consider chossing Giraffe Communications though because we have the BEST paid search master. And that is not just our opinion; Google has awarded him "Qualified AdWords Individual" status and he is also Certified in Paid Search Management by Marketing Experiments.

ON-Page SEO:

As I mentioned, doing one without the other will not do any favors for reaching your goals. Although separtaed for implementation and explanation purposes, on page and off page work in tandem.

On page refers to the tasks that are directly related to your site that increases your organic rank position.

The items listed below are all considered on page SEO.
  • keyword rich content
  • keyword rich meta-tags
  • keyword rich descriptions
  • keyword rich links
  • Effective use of H1 and H2 tags (optimized code throughout)
  • Optimized site functionality

For example, Flash content on your site is not indexed by serach engines. Therefore if you have flash intros or other flash content that explains your products and/or services...it's not doing you any good as far as organic ranking goes. It is better to have text links since they are indexable, plus links are weighted a bit higher than normal content.

Off page SEO gets the index "spiders" to your site...once they are there you want to be sure they can move through your site easily and that your site is recognized for each of the high rated elements you have implemented (i.e. text links, H1/H2 tags, etc.) -- that is where on page SEO comes into play.

Remember, you always want to design your site for the user first and the search engines second. However, strategic and creative on page implementation can achieve that balance and ensure you get all the kudos from the search engines you deserve while creating the ultimate user experience as well.
